This Teddy Bear is PB28, a 1904 Mohair Replica Teddy Bear by Steiff, that measures 28cm from sitting, and is held internally by metal rods. PB28 is fully jointed, made from the finest mohair, and has the much coveted 5 stitch claws on each paw.This exceptional Bear is a Worldwide Limited Edition of 7,000 pieces, and comes with his certificate of authenticity. Steiff 28pb 1904 replica serial number 04573. The original 28pb, from 1904, measures 28 cm seated. His head and limbs are held together with metal rods rather than cord connections.
Steiff registered him for "utility model protection" on 5th December 1904 in Heidenheim, defining him as a "toy with moving limbs connected by a two-part wire of which the fastening sections are situated inside the body of the toy". He was listed at an original price of 5 marks. To mark the 100th birthday, Steiff produced this replica in a limited edition of 7,000 and with all the features of the original. He has shoe-button eyes made of wood.
Even the sealing -wax nose has been copied from the original-including scratches and finger marks. The consecutively numbered rag is sewn into the side seam under his left arm. He is stuffed with wood shavings and is rod-jointed.His button in ear' has the elephant motif. Lovely bear in excellent condition and comes from a smoke free home.
